Since 2003, Hamas and other militants have fired hundreds of daily rocket assaults into Israel — all during peacetime. Between 2003 until 2024, international watchdogs estimate that Palestinian Militias have launched over 19,000 rockets into Israel on an almost daily basis — a majority of which Israel doesn’t respond to — unless ushering its citizens into bomb shelters every day counts as a response. Rockets are indiscriminate munitions, and Hamas et al use them with the goal of killing as many citizens and destroying as much infrastructure as possible. The Israeli government subsidizes bomb shelters and safe rooms for all citizens, and the government has also invested heavily in military defense measures like the Iron Dome to counteract regular rocket attacks. This is the day to day lived experience for 10 million Israeli Jews, Arabs, and Druze. Peacetime for Israelis looks like checking the RedAlert app for daily rocket notifications. In between taking the kids to school and showing up at work, in between finishing a shift at H&M and meeting friends for video games, Israelis receive bomb shelter alerts and check their phones to be sure their families are safe.
A reminder: Deligitimizing Jewish or Palestinian connections to the homeland is a bad look. Peace is the right look. Let’s focus on that.
